Penguin Coding School

Penguin Coding School offers coding and STEM day camps for kids and teens that run both in the summer and on school holidays, with locations in Brooklyn (Park Slope & Cobble Hill) and the Boston suburbs (Lexington, Acton, Newton, Brookline), plus live online options. Their Summer Coding & Robotics Camps run in weekly sessions (you can choose any week from late June through early September) with full-day 9 a.m.–3 p.m. programming and optional extended hours. Kids are grouped by age and experience, with younger campers (around ages 6–9) learning to code through Minecraft Education and older kids moving into MakeCode game development, Scratch, and Python, plus a STEM Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program for teens 13–18 who want to learn to code and mentor younger campers.

A typical summer camp day at Penguin includes a mix of coding lessons and off-screen STEM: blocks of coding time, LEGO robotics, 3D printing, and hands-on science experiments, along with lunch, snack, and outdoor time every day (weather permitting). During the school year, Penguin runs holiday camps that mirror the summer format in a compressed way—often full-day “Minecraft Day” or holiday week camps where kids use Minecraft Education to learn core coding concepts (sequencing, variables, loops, conditionals) and rotate through robotics and hands-on science. For parents, the draw is that kids get a structured, technology-rich camp that still feels like camp: small groups, CPR/First Aid–trained staff, real projects to bring home, and plenty of movement and off-screen time alongside the coding.
