DCTV Workshop

Start:

Sunday, May 3, 2026

11:30 am

End:

Sunday, May 3, 2026

2:00 pm

This FREE workshop, hosted by the American Museum of Natural History, features youth producers from the Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV) Youth Media program presenting their original short documentary films, along with an in-depth look at their creative process.

Through a curated screening and structured presentation, students will guide audiences through each stage of filmmaking, from pre-production to post-production, using materials such as pitch decks, research materials, scripts, shooting schedules, and editing timelines.

This session is observational rather than hands-on, offering a behind-the-scenes perspective on how youth producers develop stories, navigate production, and shape their films in the edit.

The workshop will conclude with a moderated Q&A, creating space for dialogue between the audience and the filmmakers about storytelling, process, and the role of youth voices in media. This program aims to elevate the work of emerging filmmakers while demystifying the documentary production process for attendees.

Doors to the workshop open at 11 am. This program includes lunch and admission to the Margaret Mead Film Festival screening of Daughters of the Forest at 2 pm in the LeFrak Theater.

Appropriate for ages 13 - 17, RSVP here!
